SPORcast is a patient-led initiative, hosted by two patient-partners from the Unit's Provincial Patient Council.
Beverley Pomeroy is a patient partner, healthcare educator and author of Living Grief; the Profound Journey of Ongoing Loss. Bev is co-lead on several research projects partnering with UBC and BC Children's Hospital as well as collaborates with BC Patient Safety Quality Council, Accreditation Canada, BC SUPPORT Unit, SPOR Evidence Alliance and PVN.
Bev fell into patient-oriented research after her daughter, Sophia, passed away from a rare, complex, chronic disease at the age of 16.
She can be found on the golf course, or searching for the best burger and lager in town.
Lisa Ridgway is a patient partner and a lawyer. After UBC Law and 15 years of wearing a suit and heels, she become an advocate for patient oriented research and mental health issues.
Lisa leads a research project as a patient, and also collaborates with UVIC. UBC, Island Health, the BC SUPPORT Unit and PVN.
She has a black labrador called "Dazzle" and credits her dog with much of her recovery from mental health challenges.
