Trailblazing Harmonized Research Ethics Review in BC

About the webinar:

The research ethics process can be daunting to researchers and in a province with so many opportunities for collaboration, obtaining research ethics approval from multiple institutions can lead to frustration and unnecessary delays.  Since 2007, there has been a movement in BC to streamline the process by ‘harmonizing’ research ethics review for multi-jurisdictional studies.  At the forefront of this movement was the BC Ethics Harmonization Initiative, which has now become Research Ethics BC.  By working with our colleagues in all the major universities, health authorities, and research intensive colleges in BC, we have successfully launched models for harmonized research ethics review including a common electronic platform for the review process.  Join us in this webinar to learn more about how Research Ethics BC has created the only collaborative multi-jurisdictional research ethics process in Canada, as well as what supports are available for researchers and research ethics boards regardless of whether they are conducting multi-jurisdictional research or not.  Please bring any questions about the research ethics process, including how to know if your research requires harmonized ethical review.

Presented by:

Terri Fleming joined BC AHSN as the Director for Research Ethics BC after successfully leading the BC Ethics Harmonization Initiative as the Chair of the Advisory Committee.  While working with Island Health as the Manager of Research Ethics and Compliance, Terri used her skills in project management to guide the successful implementation of harmonized research ethics review processes within BC.  Terri holds an MBA in business change management and two qualifications in Project Management, as well as being a qualified Good Clinical Practice (GCP) auditor.  See her profile for more information.
