Tools for Patient-Oriented Knowledge Translation (T4PO-KT): Implementing Practice Change Workshop

Do you work or do research in the health system supporting ‘evidence-informed’ practice change?  Are you sometimes frustrated with attempts at practice change not working out as planned or with running into roadblocks along the way?  If this sounds familiar, then this workshop is for you.

This interactive workshop will offer a ’one-stop shopping experience’ that pulls together an amazing array of tools and resources that can be used to support evidence-informed practice change in a health care setting.  This will be a practice focused workshop where we will share evidence-informed tools and resources that can be used at specific steps of the implementation process, from evaluating the need and readiness for change through to sustaining the uptake of practice changes. At each step, we will provide the opportunity for participants to explore the resources, using their own laptop or tablet, to link to and interact with them.  Participants will also participate in small group discussions and share with the larger group their thoughts about the potential opportunities and challenges with using the tools in the clinical setting.  In addition, we will have health care providers and patient partners share their real-world examples of successful PO-KT projects.

The objectives of this workshop are:

  1. To enable increased awareness of implementation tools and knowledge translation strategies that can be used to facilitate practice change in a health care setting.
  2. To further an increased understanding of the rationale and approaches for engaging patients, health care providers and health service decision-makers as partners in practice change initiatives.
  3. To provide the opportunity to learn from exemplar patient-oriented practise change initiatives.
  4. To offer opportunities to network and explore future collaborations.
